VOTED CHAIYA ART AWARDS PUBLIC FAVOURITE AT OXO GALLERY LONDON I’m not only pleased to tell you that the ‘Awe & Wonder’ exhibition went well - BUT my art installation WON the PUBLIC CHOICE AWARD! How cool is that?!! With around 120 artists taking part and 3,400 people visiting the show at Oxo Gallery, London, apparently there was over 2,000 votes made by the public over all, and my interactive art work ‘Emerge’ won the prize! Thank you to everyone who visited, and enjoyed my art, it means the world to me that so many people loved it, as it was a real labour of love to create - as you know! Here are a few pictures of my art installation called EMERGE. OTHER WORK IN THE SHOW It was such a privilege to be selected to take part in this show, especially once I’d seen the other artwork and what talent was on display! It was also a great opportunity to connect with a number of fabulous artists and be inspired by such a wide variety of materials and mediums used. Here are some of my favourite pieces.

I’m thrilled that EMERGE (my MA final show art installation) has been selected for Chaiya Art Awards 2023 exhibition ‘Awe and Wonder’ at Oxo Tower Wharf Gallery London, 7-16 April 2023. Thankfully I started making plans for this before my place had been confirmed, so had been able to go into my storage and do an inventory of the various elements that make up my installation - BEFORE I broke my wrist. So I have working for a while on adjusting and improving parts to make sure I can show it at it’s very best in this prestigious venue. I’ve been in dialogue with the incredibly helpful curator of the show about my allocated space as there is a lot to think about when showing such a large scale piece of art in a new setting. I’m excited that I have been given a whole room to myself and this week I did a site visit with my fabulous installer technician friend Paul, to make measurements and make sure I prepare well. Here is a sneak peep of the place I will be exhibiting in. And here are some photos of the preparations underway - from sewing covers for gigantic fluffy beachballs, to creating a 3D mockup of the room, measuring lengths of rope and reshaping elements damaged in storage. Here is a link to the website with more details about the show. I will of course share the official promotional material once I have it: https://chaiyaartawards.co.uk/
Art Exhibition in my homEInstead of sharing recent work this time I decided to do a bit of a spring clean, as my storage space for art is full. So my focus for this was on pieces that were created a few years ago. I decided to still have an art exhibition in my home and studio, despite, not being allowed to invite anyone in and I created a live video tour to share my work. Art auctionFor the first time, I thought I would try running this exhibition as a secret auction, where people could pay whatever they wished, with no reserve prices (although I did reserve the right to refuse bids for any reason). I set up an auction page on my website with the 12 pieces I’d selected and another page explaining how it all worked. I showed the normal prices that these paintings sold for and details about their size etc. I even offered free shipping and gift wrapping! Each painting had a ‘place a bid’ button which took people through to a google form where they placed their bids. Then I shared images of each painting in the auction during the week on social media and drew attention to the final day with a live art demo and chat. See above for the art I made in the demo. What I learnt doing an art auction for the first time
Would I do it again? I think the biggest thing I’ve learnt is that having an event to work towards, gives you something positive to focus on and to talk about! I ended up reaching SO many more people through doing this on line than I would have done doing it just locally - in fact I will make sure that I include an online element in my future events even once Covid has gone. I will probably do an auction again at some point but not for a number of years, I feel this type of thing works best as a one off special. But I will definitely be using all the things I learnt through this experience as I look to plan what’s next. Here's a little video of tour of my Christmas Open Studio event, for those of you who weren't able to make it. Currently my art is on display in a one woman show at The Locker Cafe called COLOUR STORIES - the exhibition runs from the 19th August until 26th September 2019 and I thought you’d like to take a look. Last Friday I hosted a Private View evening at the cafe which involved me painting live to beautiful live harp music from the super talented Lucy Bunce. It was a really lovely evening with very positive response from those who came. One lady exclaimed “heaven must be a bit like this”! Here is a movie that I’ve put together which includes a tour of the exhibition as well as some clips of the live art and harp. If you’re local to Cambridge, do make a visit to the Locker Cafe, it’s a lovely setting and the art looks even better in real life!
Cambridge Open Studios has been and gone for another year and I thought I’d share something of it for those who weren’t able to come and visit. What is Open Studios? A little introduction for those who don’t know - Cambridge Open Studios runs for 4 weekends in July each year, across the city and surrounding area. Each weekend I choose to take part (this year it was the 2nd and 3rd w/e) I open my home and studio space to the public from 11 am - 6pm each day. I transform the downstairs of my home (my lounge and kitchen) into an exhibition, displaying my art and art products on every wall and surface area I can find! Then I distribute fliers, shout about it on social media and wait to see who comes. |
These weekends take quite a lot of effort and disrupt family life a bit, but I feel it’s totally worth it. I love encouraging and inspiring others. There’s been some really interesting conversations and connections, I’ve met some of my neighbours and made some lovely new friends. On top of that I’ve sold some art! - and my happy colours are now blessing someone else’s home. |
'Colour Songs'
This April I got to show all my favourite paintings in a beautiful gallery space in Cambridge and I thought you might like to take a look!
I called this show COLOUR SONGS as that's how I would describe my pictures - singing with colour.

This poster says 5 - 13th April but the gallery owner was so thrilled with how the exhibition looked that she invited me to extend the show for double the time, at no extra cost!
Here is a video tour for those of you who were not able to make it along in person.
... and here are some of my favourite views of the show ...
Last weekend was my 'one night only' Christmas Open Studio and I thought I'd put together some pictures and a little video for those of you who weren't able to make it.
Behind the scenes
I like to make sure each time I exhibit that there is fresh, unseen work for people to see, some of which only got finished in the final days leading up to my event
And then I was ready. Here are some photos and the little video I took on the night – enjoy!
Last Saturday was my first time exhibiting at Histon Handmade Christmas Fair and I thought you'd like to know how it went. It's an event that's only been going since 2016, founded by Claire Howieson a jewellery designer. Exhibiting is by invitation, with a handful of new artists/designers each time to keep things fresh. I went as a visitor last Christmas and was really impressed with both the quality of the products on sale, and the number of visitors, and so I applied to take part and was thrilled to be accepted. This year there were 23 stalls (with 6 of us newbies), it ran from 12-7pm and we got nearly 1200 people through the doors. There was jewellery, textiles, ceramics, printmaking, handmade books, illustration, glass work, basketry, hats, photography and fine art. |
On the radio
As part of promoting the event I volunteered to be interviewed on the radio. Live on BBC Cambridgeshire with Jeremy Sallis, and in my art studio for the Suzy Thorpe programme on Cambridge 105. All great experience.
Preparations
I haven't done a craft fair since my crochet days, so I've spent time over the last few months designing fine art gifts – both hand-painted originals and printed items looking to cater for every budget. See the previous blog post for more details. I also had to think creatively about how to present all my work on a 5ft table: display, labelling and easy access storage. I did 2 practice runs in my kitchen in the run up to the event, to make sure I knew what I was doing and how long it took (I needed every second of the 2 hour set up time on the day). |
On the day
Here is a video of my little Kate Green ART pop up shop. I was the first table inside the door of the main hall and was really pleased to hear people's reactions as they entered and saw my colourful products. I had my ipad playing videos of my art process which drew a lot of attention, and I wore my dress printed with one of my pictures, both of these proved good conversation starters.
I was really pleased with how the day went, although I was a little exhausted afterwards. I sold a pleasing number of items – my cushions, notebooks and calendars were the top sellers on this occasion and I made some great new contacts, including a local gallery interested in exhibiting my work.
It was the first outing of my new SUMUP card reader, which is a fabulous tool I'd recommend to anyone. Not only allowing easy card payments and receipts, but also keeping record of cash payments so I didn't have to write anything down and wasn't worried about how much change to give people!

New friends
On top of everything else this event was also worth doing because of the new and continuing friendships I'm building with other local artists. Inspiration, encouragement, ideas and support – from seeing how others display their wares, to social media sharing, to people carrying my many boxes to my car at the end of a long day. Being an artist can be quite an isolated existence and it's good to make new friends!
1 weekend, 100 artists, 500 artworks
A couple of weeks ago I took part in the Cambridge Open Art Exhibition at Swavesey Village College. We each had to submit 3 paintings for display and 2 'unframed' pieces. These were my contributions:
I was very pleased to sell Forage #2 during the weekend.
Preview Night
As an exhibiting artist I was invited along to the Preview Night. I found a selection of pieces that I was really drawn to and inspired by, that I wanted to share with you.
It was my first time exhibiting at this show and I was thrilled to have my artwork on display alongside some really fantastic local talent.
