1 WEEK TO GO - MA UPDATE

I’m now heading into the FINAL week before I install my MA show (eek!). Things are getting exciting and SUPER busy. Let me fill you in on what I’ve been up to.

This week in my studio…

Last Saturday I had a team of eager 11 year olds help me whitewash 36 papermache balls, so this week I’ve been steadily working on finishing these off - coating them in colourful paint and splatting them before transporting them to college. These vibrant seeds will go inside my giant tent pod which will have UV lighting so they glow in the dark. Here’s a timelapse video of the process.

I then moved onto much smaller versions - there’s 60 of these to do, and they're all gettings covered in spots too!

I’ve also made a little progress on covering some conker spikes with Lycra, lots of these to complete next week.

How’s it going?

• This weekend I’m actually in Scotland at the EDINBURGH Fringe to see my daughters show. I have to admit that although of course it’s good to spend time with my lovely family, this isn’t the ideal time for a break and it’s a challenge to keep the stress levels in check!
  
• This Monday I install the tent element to my show and put place marks where I think the pods in my forest will go in time for a group crit on Tuesday to confirm FINAL POSITIONING of each part in relation to the others exhibiting in the gallery. I’m really looking forward to being beyond these 2 days when finally most of the uncertainties I’ve been living with since Christmas, of… will it work, will it look right, will it fit alongside others work, will the staff and students give their seal of approval, will be answered and I can just get on with working like crazy to finish and putting everything together!
  
• And finally, as it literally gets to the point of counting the hours left, I’m looking at my ‘STILL TO DO’ list and wondering whether it’s possible. And the answer is “I don’t really know”. There are still too many unknowns to be able to quantify it really. I’ll work hard but I’ll try not to be too silly about it, there is flexibility in my plans and whatever doesn’t get finished in time will be ok.

• 23 pods finished (11 still to do) & 117 seeds finished (108 still to do)!
• 1st September my show opens
• 16th September show comes down + supporting documentation is handed in
• 5 weeks until my holiday!
